Keith Orrell

Keith Orrell, a Lancastrian, initially studied choral conducting with the late Simon Johnson and piano with Martin Roscoe. Formerly a schoolteacher, Keith has conducted various choirs including the Birmingham Singers, the Hallé Choir, and the Beaumaris Singers.

Keith was Chorus Master to the Hallé Choir from 1995 to 2002, during which time he revived the choir's reputation. He worked regularly with Mark Elder and other international conductors and trained the choir for all its concerts at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester. Keith also took the Hallé Choir to the Verbier International Festival in Switzerland, the closing concert of the Llangollen International Festival in 1997 (with Montserrat Caballé) and to the Welsh Proms in Cardiff.

Keith founded the Beaumaris Singers in 1988 and was been the choir's musical director until 2004. He conducted a number of choral performances with original instruments, and worked on several occasions with the English Haydn Orchestra and with Platform 4. He also directed Platform 4's thirteen-voice choir in candlelit costume performances of Messiah at The Theatre Royal, Bath.

Keith has now taken up the position of Musical Director of Liverpool Roman Catholic Cathedral.  Beaumaris wish him every success in the future.
