Completed events for the 2008/9 season.

The Glory of English Music.

Saturday November 8th, 2008, St. Mary Magdalene church, Bridgnorth, 7-30 p.m.

(You may notice that some of our posters and handouts show the venue as the "Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Bridgnorth", which is not correct, in fact there is no such church! Our apologies for any confusion or offence caused.)

This is concert of fairly short items, from both the choir and the organ. The choir will be singing a very varied selection, from Elgar's Te Deum and "Seek him that maketh the seven stars" , to the Tallis Lamentations 1 and 2, Walton's Missa Brevis, and Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia.
Featured on the piano, played by Simon Dearsley,  will be Sarnia by John Ireland.
None of the pieces is very long, so if you're new to choral music it would be a great introduction!
Tickets £10, concessions £8.

Messiah Part 1 and other seasonal music.

Tuesday December 2nd. 2008, St. Nicolas' church, Newport, Shropshire, 7-30 p.m.

We are doing "Part 1" of the ever-popular Handel's Messiah again, i.e up to the chorus "His yoke is easy....", following the very successful concert with a small chamber group of instrumentalists that we did two years ago.
After the interval we will again be performing Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia, and the Ave Maria by one of the choir's favourite composers, an American called Morten Lauridsen.
We finish with some audience participation, i.e. the choir and congregation will sing a selection of carols, and again, following very favourable comments from previous years, the choir will sing "in the round", or more precisely "in the rectangle", to give a genuine "surround sound" effect. If you haven't experienced it before, well, you know where to come!
Tickets £10, concessions £8, and seasonal refreshments will be served to complete the occasion!
